The Sands Room sits in its own gardens adjacent to the Sands Recreation Ground and consists of a large hall with small stage area (16.75m x 6m total), two ancillary rooms, kitchen, lavatories and storage room. There is limited parking on-site, though on street parking is available, plus parking is also available in the British Legion's car park on weekdays only.
Usage of The Sands Room has steadily increased over the last few years and regular users include the Women’s Institute, Brownies, local women’s groups, bridge club, art classes, Pilates classes, band practice and reenactment groups. It is also used as a Polling Station, for Parish Council meetings, christenings, wedding receptions and all manner of community events including our Street Parties for Her Majesty the Queen's Diamond Jubilee 2012 and the 60th Anniversary of her Coronation in 2013.
A Volunteer Management Committee is responsible for the day to day administration of The Sands Room which is self-financing from income generated from rentals.
The Sands Room was built in 1897. It was a gift to the people of the village by Mrs T M Kitchin who lived at Great Down on the Hog’s Back above the Seale Valley.
